NU Barkada will be hosting its 2016 Benefit Concert in afterHOURS to help raise funds to develop a reading culture and promote literacy among children in poverty-stricken areas of the Philippines. Individuals and organizations, like Bagong Kulturang Pinoy, strive to provide a solid education whch will lead to greater opportunities for childrens' future.

This year's Benefit Concert will feature the talents of artists and musicians from the Northeastern community as well as the greater Boston area. Join us for an evening full of music and fun as we support the amazing works of Bagong Kulturang Pinoy!

"BKP was founded by Rowena Jimenez 'as a personal dream that snowballed into a vision shared by many people.' Her dream was sparked in 1997 when, during an extended stay in the Philippines, she witnessed the neighborhood children’s curiosity and interest in the picture books her children had brought with them from the U.S. It was as if the books were "the greatest novelty in the world."
