From the company that brought you Gatsby, Alice, and The Jungle Book, now comes a compelling retelling of a modern classic: The Giver. Inspired by Lois Lowry’s award-winning novel, Harvard Ballet Company's The Giver takes audience members on a wrenching exploration of one boy's struggle to break free of a dystopian world devoid of memory, music, and color. Through an unprecedented fusion of movement, music, and film and a stunning array of original works by student choreographers, composers, cinematographers, and guest artists, HBC’s The Giver seeks to redefine the boundaries of not only representation and art, but also what it means to be human.
Directed by Catherine Qin '17 and Lilly Riveron '17, and produced by Gaby Czarniak '17 and Nina Shevzov-Zebrun '16, The Giver will feature two original works created by professional guest choreographers Chanel DaSilva of the Trey McIntyre Project and Alex Tressor from Steps on Broadway. In addition, The Giver showcases a wide variety of pieces by talented student choreographers Sophie Carroll, Jacqueline Flood, Miriam Huetter, Angela Ma, Catherine Qin, Anna Riley-Shepard, and Nina Shevzov-Zebrun.
