HCSO is a student-run non-profit organization that makes personalized books for children in orphanages located around the world.
Harvard College Stories for Orphans, partnering with a different international orphanage each semester, aims to remind each child in that home that he is special and to foster an early love of reading by presenting each of them with an individualized storybook written and illustrated by Harvard students. Children in orphanages often cannot receive the personalized attention that they deserve and their personal possessions amount to a few items of clothing, that precious sticker earned in school, and maybe a doll. By giving them their own books, it is our hope that the children will discover in them not only a whimsical story-line, but also a sense of individuality and worth.
