A mixed voice group that seeks to combine education in a capella singing techniques with performances at UMass Boston functions and with the community.
The Sea Sharps Mixed Voice a Capella Group (After referred to as Sea Sharps) is a mixed voice group that seeks to combine education in a capella singing techniques with performances at University functions.
The Sea Sharps club is open to all students at UMass Boston, though there is an audition process to be a member of the performance group. Other members of the club may choose to take a try at composing music, or playing the piano for rehearsals, or any other behind the scene roles that may arise throughout the year.
Because the focus of the group is to build a repertoire and to hone in on music techniques, there is a heavy stress on the importance of commitment. Rehearsals are held at least once a week, and practice at home is also expected. Failure to meet these expectations may result in removal from the performance group at the discretion of the club leaders.
