We address issues of sexual assault, intimate partner violence and stalking in the Simmons community, through prevention, education, awareness and support.

College and university communities nation-wide often have cultures that promote gender-based violence, such as sexual assault, rape, intimate partner violence and stalking.

Simmons recognizes that these violations can serve as major barriers to the health, wellness and success of our community members. In true Simmons spirit, we have chosen to be proactive in sending the message that these behaviors have no place in or around our college campuses.

Our Violence Prevention and Educational Outreach program takes preventative action, and works to spread education and awareness on these critical issues. Additionally, we work closely with the Simmons Title IX Coordinator and Title IX Deputy Coordinator to support survivors within our community, and to offer resources and reporting options.

Additionally, the Office of Violence Prevention and Educational Outreach advises the Betsy’s Friends student group. Betsy’s Friends is named after Elizabeth “Betsy” McCandless, a Simmons graduate from 1971, who lost her life due to domestic violence. In an effort to memorialize Betsy and to recognize the serious problem of domestic violence that ended her vibrant life so abruptly, Simmons has created a student group in her name, which offers peer education, awareness and support.
